Funeral Flower Letters & Name Tributes

Funeral flower letters spell out a name or relationship — MUM, DAD, NAN, SON, a first name or a nickname — in handcrafted flowers, displayed beside the coffin or in the hearse window on the day. Ours are made letter by letter in premium silk, so they stay crisp and full through the whole service — and afterwards, each letter can be kept by a different member of the family.

Some words are too big to say out loud. Spelling them in flowers is how many families say them anyway. Every letter we make is built by hand in our Bromley studio — massed silk blooms edged in ribbon, mounted so they stand straight and read clearly from across a chapel or through a hearse window.

The Words Families Choose

Tribute Letters Notes
MUM · DAD · NAN · SON 3 The classic hearse-window tributes — bold, clear, unmistakable
AUNTIE · SISTER · GRANDAD 6–7 Longer relations — we’ll advise on sizing so it fits the display or hearse
First names & nicknames Any Often the most personal choice — the name only their family used

Every word is priced per letter, so a name costs exactly what it spells. If you’re unsure whether a longer word will fit the hearse or the display area, ask us — we’ll check with you before making anything.

Seen From the Street, Remembered for Years

Letter tributes traditionally travel in the hearse window, spelling out who is loved as the cortège passes. It’s one of the oldest and most public traditions in a British funeral — and it’s exactly where silk earns its place. Fresh letters wilt and gap in a warm hearse; silk letters stay full and crisp from the first mile to the last.

Make It Theirs

Choose the flower colours — classic white chrysanthemums, their favourite colour, or the colours of the team they never missed. Ribbon edging can match, and small clusters of roses or picks can be added to each letter. For something fully personal, our bespoke service is always available. If you’re combining letters with a casket spray and standing tributes, our funeral packages coordinate everything so it matches on the day.

After the Funeral — A Letter Each

Here is the quiet advantage families don’t expect: silk letters last. After the service, many families divide the word between them — one letter to each child, each grandchild — or place the whole word at the graveside, where it stays beautiful for months. Nothing is cleared away and lost within the week.

Made by Hand, Built to Be Read

Letters have to be legible — from across a chapel, through glass, in photographs. We mass the blooms tightly so every character holds its shape, edge each letter in ribbon for definition, and mount the word so it stands straight for the whole service.

Our promise: if a tribute arrives damaged or loses its shape within 30 days, we replace it. No quibbles.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do funeral flower letters cost?

Letters are priced individually, so the cost is simply the price per letter multiplied by the length of the word — MUM costs three letters, GRANDAD costs seven. Our current per-letter price is shown on the product above.

What words can be made in funeral letters?

Anything — relations like MUM, DAD, NAN, SON or AUNTIE, first names, surnames, or nicknames. The name only their family used is often the most moving choice of all.

Do the letters go in the hearse?

Traditionally yes — letter tributes travel in the hearse window so the word can be read as the cortège passes. They can equally stand beside the coffin at the service or at the wake. Tell us where they’ll be displayed and we’ll size and mount them to suit.

How big is each letter?

Our standard letters are sized to read clearly through a hearse window — large enough to be legible from the street, sized to fit the deck. If your funeral director has specific display dimensions, we’ll work to them.

Can we choose the flower and ribbon colours?

Yes — classic white with coloured ribbon edging is traditional, but we regularly make letters in favourite colours, football colours, or to match the casket spray and other tributes.

Can we keep the letters after the funeral?

Yes — and many families do exactly that, dividing the word so each child or grandchild keeps a letter. Silk letters can also be placed at the grave, where they’ll hold their colour outdoors for months.

How far in advance should we order?

Letters are made individually by hand, so three to five days is comfortable. For imminent services, phone us before ordering and we’ll confirm honestly what’s possible in the time.

Are artificial flower letters appropriate?

Yes — for letters especially, silk is often the better choice. The letters stay crisp and legible for the entire day, photograph beautifully, and become keepsakes instead of being cleared away.
