Heart & Cross Funeral Tributes
Heart and cross tributes are shaped floral arrangements given at a funeral — the heart for love, the cross for faith — traditionally displayed beside the coffin and often placed at the grave afterwards. Ours are massed by hand in premium silk, edged in ribbon, and made to hold their shape from the service to the graveside and for months beyond.
Some tributes say what words can’t. A heart from a wife of fifty years. A cross from a faithful congregation. These are the shapes that carry meaning at a glance — and they deserve to be made properly. Each one leaves our Bromley studio massed tight, edged clean, and finished with a personalised sash if you’d like one.

Choosing Between the Shapes
| Tribute | What it says | Traditionally from |
|---|---|---|
| Heart | Love and devotion | A partner, children, parents — the closest bonds |
| Cross | Faith and peace | Family, or a church and faith community |
| Pillow / cushion | Comfort and rest | Close family |
| Gates of Heaven | A peaceful passage onwards | Family and faith communities |
| Angel wings | Protection and remembrance | Often chosen for parents and children |
There’s no rule that binds you — the shape that feels right for the person you’re remembering is the right one.
A Sash With Their Words
Most hearts and crosses carry a printed sash across the face — “All my love, always and forever”, “Beloved Dad”, “At peace”. Short and true reads best. If the words won’t come, tell us who they were to you; we’ve helped many families find them. Colours can be theirs too — traditional red and white, soft pastels, or the colours of a team they loved. For something fully personal, our bespoke service is here.
From the Service to the Graveside
Hearts and crosses are displayed beside the coffin or carried with the cortège — and because ours are silk, they don’t end there. After the service, most families move the tribute to the grave, where it rests against the headstone holding its colour for months. When the time comes to refresh the graveside, our artificial grave flowers carry the same care through every season. If you’re planning the full set of flowers for the day, they pair naturally with a casket spray and letter tributes.
Massed by Hand, Edged to Hold Their Shape
A heart that sags or a cross with gaps says the wrong thing entirely. We mass our blooms tightly — traditional carnation-style heads for the body, feature roses for the spray — wire the stems, and edge each piece in pleated ribbon so the silhouette stays sharp through the whole day and long after.
Our promise: if a tribute arrives damaged or loses its shape within 30 days, we replace it. No quibbles.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who gives a heart tribute at a funeral?
Traditionally the closest family — a husband or wife, children, or parents. A heart says love plainly, which is why it’s most often chosen by the people who loved them most.
What should the sash on a heart or cross say?
Short and heartfelt reads best: “All my love, always and forever”, “Beloved Mum”, “At peace”, or simply their name. We print the sash to your exact words.
Is a cross tribute only for religious funerals?
Mostly it’s chosen for its meaning of faith and peace, but there’s no rule — some families choose it as a traditional mark of respect regardless of the service. Choose what feels right.
Can the heart or cross go on the grave after the service?
Yes — this is where silk quietly outshines fresh. Most families move the tribute to the graveside after the service, where it rests against the headstone and holds its colour for months.
What colours do heart tributes come in?
Classic red with white ribbon is the enduring choice for a heart; whites and creams suit crosses. But favourite colours, pastels and team colours are all made regularly — the personal choice is always the most remembered.
What sizes are available?
Our standard sizes are made to display well beside a coffin and sit naturally at a grave afterwards. If you need a particular size for the display or the plot, tell us and we’ll make to suit.
How far in advance should we order?
Three to five days is comfortable, and we regularly help at shorter notice. If the service is imminent, phone us before ordering online and we’ll confirm what’s possible.
Are artificial heart and cross tributes appropriate?
Yes — massed silk holds a crisp silhouette all day in any weather, photographs beautifully, and becomes a lasting graveside tribute instead of being cleared within the week.
