Funeral Flower Trends & Statistics 2026

Last updated: 30 August 2026 · Compiled by Stems From Heaven, handmade silk funeral florists, Orpington

A short, sourced look at what UK families are choosing when it comes to funeral flowers and memorial tributes — combining our own order data with the leading national research. Figures are free to cite with a link back to this page.

Our Own Data: What Families Actually Order

Around half of all the funeral tributes we made last year were for a mother — most often a personalised MUM flower-letter tribute or a coordinated family package. Source: Stems From Heaven order data, 2025. Small-business sample; proportions rounded.

It is the single clearest pattern in what we make. When families come to us, more often than not they are saying goodbye to Mum — and they want her name, or the word “MUM”, spelled in flowers rather than a generic arrangement. Personalisation, not price, is what they ask about first.

The National Picture: UK Funeral & Flower Statistics

  • Only 16% of people know what type of flowers the deceased wanted — up from 14% the year before, but still the detail families are least likely to know. Source: SunLife Cost of Dying Report 2025.
  • The average UK funeral cost £4,285 in 2025, an all-time high, with the total “cost of dying” reaching £9,797. Source: SunLife Cost of Dying Report 2025.
  • London is the most expensive place in the UK for a funeral at £5,449 — 27% above the national average. Source: SunLife Cost of Dying Report 2025.
  • 1 in 5 families face financial difficulty paying for a funeral, and 75% of those report an impact on their mental health. Source: SunLife Cost of Dying Report 2025.
  • Flowers are a named “send-off” cost within the average £2,861 spent on personal send-off extras — the part of a funeral families most want to make personal. Source: SunLife Cost of Dying Report 2024–25.
  • Cremation continues to outpace burial, with burials down and cremations up around 2% year on year — shifting more remembrance to memorial gardens and grave-side tributes that last. Source: SunLife Cost of Dying Report 2025.

What It Means: The Rise of Lasting, Personal Tributes

Two trends meet in our own data. Families increasingly want tributes that are personal — a name, a relationship, “MUM” — rather than generic; and with costs at record highs and cremation shifting remembrance to the graveside, more families are choosing flowers that last over fresh ones cleared within the week. Handmade silk tributes sit exactly at that intersection: personal, and lasting.
